Helium Mobile Introduces New $20 Group Plans Offering Unlimited Data

Helium Mobile, a wireless telecommunications provider powered by Helium Network, has launched group plans offering unlimited services for $20 per user in a bid to expand its share of the U.S. mobile carrier market.

Announced on May 2, Helium Mobile said that their group plans offer unlimited calls, text, and data per line. Groups can comprise up to eight people.

According to a 2023 report by online billing aggregator, Dexo, the average American family spends about $1,300 yearly on mobile services. Costs for data are determined based on the size of the group and data allotments, linking shared plan holders together through their collective data usage.

"Most Americans are part of a multi-line wireless plan....unfortunately, the biggest wireless providers that control these subscriptions and networks often charge exorbitant fees to groups," said Helium Mobile.

Helium Network is a top decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) project. The project incentivizes users to build and maintain mobile networks leveraging its infrastructure with rewards in the form of the HNT token.

Helium also offers Helium Mobile (MOBILE) tokens to users who maintain a hotspot providing coverage for the network. MOBILE tokens can be used to pay users’ bills.

In December, Helium expanded its mobile service nationwide, leveraging T-Mobile’s network to offer unlimited plans to U.S. customers nationwide for $20, with internet speeds throttled after 30 GB of usage.

On April 28, Arman Dezfuli-Arjomandi of the Helium Foundation tweeted that Helium Network had onboarded 62,463 subscribers to its unlimited plans since the start of 2024.

HNT is up 5% in the past 24 hours, last changing hands for $5.38, according to CoinGecko. HNT is the 101st largest cryptocurrency by market cap with $886 million.
