BNB Chain Beats Solana in Daily Transaction Fees

Binance-linked BNB Chain surpassed Solana as the top Layer 1 in terms of daily fees as former CEO Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, sparked memecoin-related activity.

BNB Chain’s daily transaction fees exceeded $5.8 million on Feb. 13, beating Solana’s $3.3 million, Nansen data shows. BNB fees were more than 5x the sum for Ethereum.

BNB Chain overtook Solana in daily fees for the first time since October 2024 and became the first blockchain other than Ethereum or Solana to lead in terms of daily fees.

The main driver behind the BNB Chain’s activities came following CZ’s post about his dog on X. CZ revealed a story about his dog, Broccoli. The main token is called BROCCOLI.

The former Binance CEO came under scrutiny following the emergence of multiple memecoins named after his dog, Broccoli. CZ highlighted that he is just posting about his dog and is not issuing a memecoin himself, according to the X post.

Broccoli-themed memecoins have emerged in large numbers, with over 480 tokens launched on Solana’s Pump.fun and more than 300 tokens emerging on BNB Smart Chain’s Four.Meme.

One of those coins, CZ'S Dog (BROCCOLI) soared over to over $200 million in market cap and is currently at $118 million marketcap as of this writing, according to Coingecko data shows. Another token, Broccoli (FirstBroccoli) has surged over 130% in the last 24 hours, as per Binance.

Driven by increased memecoin trading volume, BNB Chain-based PancakeSwap outperformed all decentralized exchanges DEXs) in the last 24 hours, generating more than $15.90 billion in trading volume, as DefiLlama data shows.

BNB Chain addressed in its 2025 roadmap that it will continue to support the meme ecosystem.

“We are happy to see many of the meme tool providers integrate with BNB Chain. And we will continue to work closely with them in 2025 and beyond,” BNB Chain added in the blog post.

As the BNB Chain created a record with the highest trading fees, BNB’s native token BNB (BNB) is trading down by 0.4% in the last 24 hours. BNB is trading at $668, as Coingecko data shows.
