BTC peaked above $44,000, while renewed momentum pushed ETH to $2,380. Spot ETF bullishness is also driving the Ether markets, with the SEC postponing the deadline for its decision on Grayscale’s spot Ethereum ETF bid until Jan. 25.

The rise of inscription tokens is causing controversy in the web3 community. Bitcoin Ordinals-inspired fungible tokens are proliferating across Layer 1 networks, driving up transaction volume and fees on Polygon, BNB Chain, and Near. Bitcoin’s ORDI also became the first inscription token to surpass a $1B market cap.
However, inscriptions are causing significant congestion on several networks, momentarily bringing TON to a standstill and driving a waitlist of more than 200,000 transactions on Bitcoin. Some entities within the Bitcoin community are now calling for a boycott on inscriptions, with Ocean Mining characterizing the tokens as exploiting a code vulnerability and releasing a client censoring transactions involving inscriptions.
