TLDR Ethereum's core developers have penciled in testnet deployments for the network's forthcoming upgrades to begin next month. Dencun is set to go live on Goerli on Jan. 17, on Sepolia on Jan. 30, and on Holesky on Feb. 7.

SO WHAT The news follows a successful shadow fork and stress-testing of Dencun. The upgrade will abandon calldata and introduce blob data, dramatically improving the data availability of Layer 2 networks and paving the way for the network to become sharded.

TLDR Yuga Labs has launched a new wrapper providing CryptoPunks with the composability associated with the popular ERC-721 token standard that the veteran NFT collection predates. The floor price of CryptoPunks is up 4.5% in the past 24 hours.

TLDR Mantle is the latest Ethereum Layer 2 to host a massive surge in on-chain activity amid the launch of inscriptions on the network. Mantle processed 14 transactions per second (TPS) on average during Dec. 20, with the project stating it handled 200 TPS amid peak activity.

SO WHAT Inscription tokens are proliferating across EVM-compatible Layer 2 networks alternative Layer 1s following their emergence and rise to contention on Ethereum. Inscriptions brought both ZkSync and Arbitrum to a halt last week as the networks grappled with an average daily throughput of around 60 TPS on Dec. 16.

TLDR PancakeSwap, the leading DeFi protocol on BNB Chain, is enjoying a rally after announcing it will reduce the maximum supply of its CAKE token by 40%. CAKE rallied 20% in a day following the announcement.
