55 Million Americans Use Crypto — And Construction Workers Are Big Fans: Report

According to the 2025 State of Crypto Holders Report published by the National Cryptocurrency Association (NCA) yesterday, April 2, 55 million U.S. adults are using crypto, and 76% of them say it positively impacts their lives.

The report is based on a Harris Poll survey of 54,000 respondents — 10,000 of which were crypto owners — from late January to early February of this year, commissioned by the NCA. The organization claims that it’s the largest survey of crypto holders ever to be conducted.

The results revealed that 1 in 5 Americans own cryptocurrency, while 39% of holders use crypto to pay for goods and services.

The report also reveals that crypto owners in the United States are a diverse group, including people from younger and older demographics and of different income levels.

According to their official X account, the NCA launched early last month and is a registered non-profit in the U.S. Their stated aim is to showcase real-world use cases of crypto to Americans.

Per the report, younger people dominate the group. The report indicates that 67% of U.S. crypto owners are under the age of 45. Meanwhile, 15% of crypto owners, or nearly 9 million people, are over the age of 55. Of this group, 67% are men, while 31% are women.

In terms of occupation, a solid percentage of surveyed U.S. crypto owners — 12% to be exact — work in construction. That’s a larger percent than those who work in finance (7%), manufacturing (7%), and medical/healthcare (6%). Only people who work in tech (14%) maintain a higher percentage, according to the report.

While nearly half of American crypto holders (42%) make more than $150,000, many do not belong to higher income brackets, the report reveals: a whopping 26% of crypto-owning households report income of less than $75,000 a year.

In terms of the dollar-value of crypto holdings, 40% of crypto users reported that they hold less than $5,000 in digital assets at the time of the survey.

A large percentage of crypto owners in the U.S. support crypto regulation, the report noted. The survey also “revealed support for a broader role for cryptocurrency in America. For example, 73% hoped to see the United States become a global leader in the field.”

However, the report notes that regarding government regulation of crypto, 67% of respondents reported being “concerned about regulations threatening innovation and the development of new crypto technologies.”
