Pump.fun Halts Live Streams As Users Go to Dangerous Extremes to Launch Coins

The platform faces mounting pressure to clean up its act or risk regulatory intervention.

Pump.fun Halts Live Streams As Users Go to Dangerous Extremes to Launch Coins

Pump.fun, a no-code platform for issuing tokens on the Solana blockchain, is halting its popular livestream feature after users started using extreme tactics to increase demand for their coins.

“To ensure the absolute safety of our users, we will be pausing the live streaming functionality on the site for an indefinite time period until the moderation infrastructure is ready to deal with the heightened levels of activity,” the Pump.fun team posted on its website.

Users had started to broadcast threats of self-harm, violence, and other explicit material, sparking calls for immediate regulation. While Pump.fun had promised 24/7 moderation, the sheer scale of abuse overwhelmed its team.

The move comes as critics argue that such unchecked platforms damage crypto’s credibility, while supporters lament its loss as a space for free expression.

Pump.fun is one of the fastest-growing crypto platforms, generating revenue of $100,000 million less than a year after its launch. But it hasn’t been able to keep up with the demands of its meteoric growtht.

Harmful Content

Pump.fun’s live stream feature was intended to help developers market their tokens. However, users recently began spreading increasingly harmful content. Videos that included threats of self-harm and harm to others led to a wave of complaints from community members on X.

“[Some Pump.fun users] spend their last savings on a coin they believe will be their golden ticket, and this brings up fear, greed, and sometimes desperation,” said David Kemmerer, cofounder at Coinledger in an interview. “Those promoting the coins see it as more than business. It is personal for them, so it easily spirals into harmful behavior if unchecked.”

Possible Legal Concerns

Tech-focused lawyer Preston Bryne took to X to share concerns about Pumpfun's operation, citing possible implications if strict measures are not taken.

“Pumpdotfun does a lot very incorrectly from a social media law POV,” Bryne posted. “No terms of service, no DMCA registration and copyright policy, no privacy policy. Assuming it's U.S.-based, these are careless, stupid omissions. I wonder if the site is planning on sticking around for long.”
