Pump.fun Co-Founder Denies Wu Blockchain Reports About Token Launch

A report said a token launch is coming soon and preparations are being made with centralized exchanges.

Pump.fun co-founder Alon Cohen took to X to refute a report that the memecoin launch platform is about to drop a token of its own. But he also hinted that a token is coming at some point.

The rumors that Pump.fun is planning to launch a token of its own come from highly regarded Colin Wu of Wu Blockchain. On his X account, Wu reported that Pump.fun will launch a token on the Solana blockchain soon.

It is currently working with centralized exchanges on the system, the report said.

Pump.fun is planning to conduct public offerings and will follow a Dutch auction format, he added.

Cohen denied the report, saying he was “seeing rumors about a potential pump fun token - these are wrong.”

He added that no one should pay any attention to reports that don’t come from Pump.fun itself.

Something’s Coming

Still, he said, “while the pump fun team has mainly been focused on improving the product in its 1-year history, the team has always been committed to rewarding its users properly.”

Which certainly seems to suggest that a token launch is forthcoming. He added, “Good things take time!”

Wu Fights Back

Wu responded aggressively, telling Cohen not to “lie.”

“It is almost a public fact that Pumpfun plan to issue token using the Dutch auction inside the CEXs,” he said.

He added that the “WuBlockchain Team obtained the detailed coin issuance preparation documents that Pumpfun provided to the CEXs. We can also publish with permission.”

Beyond that, Wu said the listing staff of several centralized exchanges confirmed that there are plans for a token launch.

That said, Wu added that the timeframe of the launch has not been determined.

Pump.fun is facing a lawsuit accusing it of selling securities disguised as memecoins. The suit is notable because the law firm that filed it subsequently asked a judge to force Pump.fun to remove more than 200 memecoins that violate its brand and intellectual property.

Pump.fun also had to stop livestreaming after coin launchers threatened self-harm and violence to pump their memecoins.
