Fuel Rolls Out an AI Agent on the Heels of its FUEL Token Launch

Ethereum Layer 2 rollup Fuel Network aims to make it easy to connect existing artificial intelligence agents or create new ones.

Fuel Rolls Out an AI Agent on the Heels of its FUEL Token Launch

With the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and crypto becoming the most anticipated trend of 2025, more and more AI agents are being developed to do everything from launch memecoins to automate trading strategies.

One of the latest AI agents in crypto is from Fuel Network, a high-speed Ethereum Layer 2 rollup. Launched on Dec. 27, the Fuel Agent Kit is aimed at helping developers connect existing AI agents or create new ones on the Fuel ecosystem.

The Fuel Agent Kit came a week after Fuel launched its native FUEL token on Dec. 19, the same day it began a month-long Fuel Genesis airdrop of 10% of the 10 billion tokens, and opened staking and delegation via Fuel Ignition.

Fuel is handling 600 transactions per second (TPS) at an average cost of $0.0002 per transaction. Benchmarking shows it is capable of handling 21,000 TPS. It has a total-value locked of $312 million and its token has a market cap of $265 million.

Easy to use

Like most AI agents, the front end is made to be user-friendly.

“Instruct it with a command like, ‘Bridge 1 ETH to Fuel, swap 0.3 ETH for USDC, and send this USDC to <xyz> address,’ and consider it done,” Fuel said in a post on X.

Initially, the use cases include things like transfer assets to another Fuel wallet. It also works with some of the top decentralized apps on Fuel, like the Mira decentralized exchange (DEX), where it can handle transactions like managing swaps or providing liquidity. The AI agent can also be used to lend or borrow assets on Fuel’s decentralized lending platform Sway Lend.

Coming up are functions like buying and selling NFTs, bridging to and from Fuel, launching and trading memecoins on Fuelup.Fun, trading on peer-to-peer DEX Spark, or for perpetual swaps on the Ruscet Exchange.

Plans are also afoot to make Fuel Agent model-agnostic beyond OpenAI.

AI agents explode

If 2024 is the year in which AI reached the mass market, 2025 could be the year in which it dominates the crypto conversation.

Arguably the hottest segment of crypto already, AI tokens have provided returns that even outran meme tokens in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Automated software programs that combine AI and smart contracts, AI agents are autonomous intelligent systems that can perform several tasks in a row without human intervention, building Web3 applications and launching or promoting tokens on their own. They can also learn from those transactions.

Some predictions, for example asset manager VanEck’s, see one million AI agents in the crypto field by the end of 2025. Already AI agent tokens have a market capitalization of $12.6 billion with a 24-hour trade volume of $1.7 billion as of Dec. 30, according to CoinGecko.

The best known of these is the GOAT, which turned Truth Terminal into the first AI millionaire by playing on the goatse shock meme. Initially funded by a grant A16z’s Marc Andreessen made after a pitch by Truth Terminal itself, the AI’s wealth came from autonomous trading as well as by pumping Solana’s GOAT online.
