Crypto Donations Surpass $1 Billion in 2024, Marking Major Growth

Cryptocurrency donations surpassed $1 billion in 2024, the highest since 2021, according to The Giving Block's 2025 Annual Report on Crypto Philanthropy.
The Feb. 5 report reveals a 386% year-over-year increase in the average cryptocurrency donation size, which reached $10,978. Additionally, 70% of Forbes' Top 100 Charities now accept crypto donations, a 25% rise from the previous year.
Education nonprofits received the largest share of donations, totaling 16%, followed by Health & Medicine organizations at 13%. Children & Youth nonprofits secured 9.9%, while Animal-related charities received 9.6%. Women & Girls Empowerment charities also recorded 9.3%.

As cryptocurrency gains institutional adoption, it's becoming a key tool in reshaping philanthropy. It offers a new, more accessible way for individuals to support causes while enabling nonprofits to expand their global reach.
The report attributes the growth in crypto philanthropy to the cryptocurrency market's expansion in 2024, with its market capitalization reaching $3.72 trillion, 30% higher than the 2021 bull market peak. The approval of spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) further fueled institutional adoption of crypto, contributing to the overall rise in donations.
More to Come
Looking ahead, analysts predict the cryptocurrency market cap could reach up to $10 trillion by 2025. Crypto donations are also expected to grow, with an estimated $2.5 billion in donations projected for 2025.
By 2035, The Giving Block forecasts that total crypto donations could soar to approximately $89.27 billion.
