Netherlands Ranks as the Most Crypto-Obsessed Country in the World

A new study has revealed that the Netherlands is the most crypto-obsessed country in the world, based on the number of cryptocurrency-related searches per 100,000 people.

Conducted by crypto license lawyers LegalBison, the study analyzed Google search data for terms like “Bitcoin,” “Dogecoin,” and “Cryptocurrency” to determine global interest in digital assets. According to the findings, the Netherlands leads with 5,593 monthly searches per 100,000 people.

Liechtenstein follows in second place with 4,470 searches, despite its small population of just 40,000. Switzerland ranks third, registering 4,260 searches per 100,000 people, while Austria and Finland round out the top five with 4,078 and 3,929 searches, respectively.

Europe is Obsessed with Crypto

“With all of the top five entries being in Europe, it’s clear that enthusiasm and interest in cryptocurrency are high in the continent,” Aaron Glauberman of LegalBison said, noting Switzerland’s blockchain-friendly policies.

Switzerland — particularly the Zug province — has been known as “Crypto Valley” ever since the Ethereum Foundation established its presence there. The country is home to several other high-profile crypto organizations, such as the Tezos Foundation and Polkadot (the Web3 Foundation).

Under Swiss law, crypto foundations have the flexibility to establish their own statutes, allowing them to operate in a scalable way.

“While it may not surprise many to see ‘Bitcoin’ as the top most searched term related to crypto around the world, it’s the variance in cryptocurrencies that follows this in certain countries which are interesting, as it shows how the crypto market can completely change from one country to another,” Glauberman added.

Notably, Singapore — ranked seventh with 3,610 searches per 100,000 people — was the only non-European country to make the top ten. Meanwhile, the US did not rank among the top ten at all.
