Dismantling "Fraud Factories". ChainPatrol Premieres "Lights in Dark Rooms" in Cannes

ChainPatrol is proud to announce the premiere of its investigative documentary, "Lights in Dark Rooms," at EthCC, in Cannes. This project, which includes a 45-minute film and a 120-part short content series, exposes the harrowing reality of Southeast Asia’s "fraud factories" across Myanmar, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Laos.

The premiere will take place on March 31st at 4:30 PM CET in a 200-person auditorium at the Palais des Festivals. This event serves as a call to action for the global blockchain industry to dismantle predatory networks. The documentary follows the ChainPatrol team’s independent field research in Mae Sot, Manila, and Hong Kong, where they moved beyond remote analysis to document firsthand accounts of organized fraud and human trafficking.

A world of industrialized scam compounds is revealed, where hundreds of thousands of victims are ensnared in modern slavery. Captives are forced to execute "pig-butchering" and romance scams during 17-hour shifts under the threat of torture, electrocution, and physical Punishment.

A central focus of the documentary is the dual use of technology. While cryptocurrency is weaponized as an endgame tool to siphon billions of dollars, technologies like Starlink provide the critical internet connectivity that allows remote compounds to operate beyond the reach of law enforcement. By illuminating these dependencies, the film issues a direct challenge to the Web3 community to take responsibility for its infrastructure.

The Heart of the Mission: Helping the Heroes

The project aims to generate funding for the "heroes" on the front lines. All donations will be collected through the project’s Giveth page.

The majority of funds will be heavily prioritized for:

  • Global Alms (Thailand): An international NGO that provides direct aid, recovery support, and long-term reintegration for victims.
  • Survivor Small Q’s Advocacy: Funding the launch of a new NGO dedicated to supporting Ugandan survivors of scam compounds. Small Q, a survivor-turned-activist and musician, will be flown to Cannes to perform live and share his testimony on stage at the Premiere.

Additional support will also be provided to the Blockchain for Good Alliance and DeFi for Good to further industry-wide social impact.

The EthCC event will feature:

  • A live "Call for Donations" via Giveth to facilitate immediate industry contributions.
  • NGO and activist reunions on stage to discuss the long-term reintegration of survivors.
  • Private screenings held to facilitate discussions on scam prevention and solutions.
