XCOPY NFT Sells for $2 Million

On Oct. 9, yet another XCOPY 1/1 NFT changed hands, this time for nearly $2 million, resulting in a 799.75 ETH profit for the seller.

The 1/1, named “Chatbot and Chill?” was minted in 2018 and depicts a character infatuated with their mobile phone, presumably interacting with a chatbot service.

The piece was collected by anonymous collector Punk4945, who has been on a buying spree this year. 4945 also purchased “Bad Flavour” by XCOPY for 280 ETH, or $670,000, on Sept. 10, and Lost Robbie #7 for 200 ETH, or $500,000, on Sept. 21.

Despite the dwindling volumes in the NFT markets, XCOPY remains one of the best performers in the space, commanding a premium for 1/1 pieces and consistent demand for new mints.

The artist is currently in the midst of minting “Cope Salada,” a generative set of 250 unique NFTs to be minted on the Shape L2 blockchain. The collection features a mint price of 0.33 ETH, and the current floor price is 3.85 ETH, with sales between 3.5 and 4.69 ETH.

XCOPY has spent much of 2024 allowing holders to burn editions of the “Max Pain and Frens” open edition from 2022 into smaller edition pieces in the “Damage Control” series. The lowest price for any “Damage Control” NFT is 0.83 ETH, with lower supply editions in the set trading for as high as 2 ETH.

Upon the sale, Punk4945 said, “Chatbot and Chill?" is another example of @XCOPYART being ahead of his time, created in 2018, long before the rise of LLMs and the surge of AI enthusiasts.” He continued, “This piece serves as a significant signal from 2018, hinting that AI was poised to transform our relationships.”
