Trump Organization Files Patent for TRUMP Metaverse

U.S. President Donald Trump’s company has filed a patent to launch a Trump-themed metaverse and digital clothing line.

Trademark attorney Josh Gerben drew attention to the patent filing, which was filed on Feb. 24 by DTTM Operations LLC, the entity that controls all trademarks for the Trump Organization.

The filing includes the ability to exchange digital goods and currencies, as well as TRUMP-branded clothing, shoes, and hats for avatars, a TRUMP-branded restaurant and “TRUMP-branded training services” in traditional business venture fields such as real estate, hospitality, and construction.

The filing is likely to turn off crypto natives, as it includes repeated references to “downloadable software” that is required for features that are usually publicly available onchain such as NFT access, virtual world access, and blockchain access. Direct downloads to devices such as computers are typically frowned upon by the crypto community, considering their vulnerability to hacks and exploits.

There is no information as to when the Trump metaverse will launch, but the filing was submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), on an “intent to use” basis, signaling plans for future commercial activity under the brand, according to Gerben Law.

Metaverse tokens, which were all the rage in 2021, have had a less-than-stellar market cycle, with leading tokens such as The Sandbox (SAND and Decentraland (MANA) down 95% from their all-time high valuations.
