Reddit NFTs Head is “Unsure” of Collection Direction After Her Exit

The head of Reddit’s Collectible Avatars (RCA), a Reddit Non-fungible token (NFT) collection, said she’s unsure of the current direction for the RCA program after announcing her departure from the company in a Jan. 6 LinkedIn post.

“I think my departure is simply a reflection of the natural shifts that happen in major companies like X and Meta as they navigate emerging technologies and evolving priorities,” Wyler said in an interview with The Defiant. “While I’m unsure of the current direction for the RCA program, I’m confident that Reddit will continue to do good by its community—the true driving force behind everything the company builds.”

A person familiar with the matter said RCA remain an area of interest for Reddit and that the company is actively recruiting for Wyler’s replacement.

Launched in 2022

Reddit, a social media platform with 73 million daily active users, launched the Reddit Collectible Avatars on Polygon in 2022. Users purchased the NFTs with fiat currency like the U.S. dollar and stored them in their vault, a blockchain-powered wallet built into Reddit.

Wyler said on LinkedIn it’s the “end of an incredible chapter” as her role at Reddit ends and that she’s proud to have “empowered creators and engaged users in new and exciting ways” with the company’s digital collectible initiatives.

Following the announcement, Reddit users have expressed concern about the future of the NFT collection.

“Sad day to see her go. I hope that this is not foreshadowing something else,” one Reddit user wrote on one of the most upvoted comments.

According to data from Dune Analytics, secondary sales for the NFTs peaked in October 2022, with $19.1 million but have since stalled, hovering around $100,000 in Q4 of 2024.
