Argentina’s Football Association To Start Tokenizing Players' Training Rights

Argentina continues to trailblaze its way through crypto, this time through the nation’s favorite sport, football. The Association of Football of Argentina (AFA) has signed an agreement with Win Investments to help clubs tokenize players’ training rights.

The idea is to offer clubs the ability to tokenize the training rights of the players they have recruited. Essentially, anyone will be able to acquire a footballers’ token from 1,200 ARS ($1), which can potentially create a new source of income for sports clubs, and fans who want to bet on their favorite players – or simply the players they think might become stars.

Dubbed the “Solidarity Method,” the move aims to eliminate intermediaries such as agents or entrepreneurs. This way, fans can invest in players and receive benefits when they are traded to other clubs.

Valentín Jaremtchuk, CEO of Win Investments, reportedly said, “This represents a milestone in the way clubs across the country can be financed and access the transfer market.”

“The digitization of these rights through the placement by public offering of these tokens makes it possible to raise money for clubs and simultaneously, democratize anyone's access to the player transfer business,” Jaremtchuk added.

Claudio ‘Chiqui’ Tapia, president of the AFA, also expressed his excitement about the agreement. “The idea is to move forward in a process of financial modernization and generation of genuine resources for the Argentine football industry through tokenization,” he said.

According to the CIES Football Observatory Monthly September Report, over $12 billion was spent on player acquisitions and sales worldwide in 2024, marking the second-highest figure in history.

The stakes are equally high within the Latin American football market, known as the Conmebol. A report by FIFA registered a whopping $247 million spent by clubs in the region, a figure that doubles that of 2023. Argentina ranks 17th in terms of value transferred in its football market, with more than $54 million.
