Doge IP Owner Buys Rights to Neiro, Setting Up Dog Fight Over New Meme

The Own the Doge DAO is setting up a crypto dog fight after buying the intellectual property rights to Neiro, the successor Shiba Inu to Kabosu, the face of the original internet doge meme.
After Kabosu passed away, owner Atsuko Sato adopted Neiro, which set off a memecoin stampede that has led to dozens of tokens using the younger Shiba Inu’s name and likeness.
Own the Doge already controls the IP for Kobasu. Now, it has turned to members of the decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) to choose the “real” Neiro token.
“When Atsuko revealed the name of her new adopted dog, Neiro, many tokens were launched in an attempt to capitalize on her name and story,” the DAO said in an X post. “However, since then, these various tokens have battled each other to become the ‘real’ Neiro, with no agreed criteria. This has led to a brutal free-for-all with significant tensions. This is not wholesome.”
It invited members and the general public to use its $DOG tokens to join a discussion on the DAO forum before voting to “give their blessing” to one project or “do something else entirely.”
Voting with their feet
Realistically, the contest to be the “real” Neiro token has already been won by the Neiro (NEIRO) token that currently has a market cap of $500 million, according to Coingecko. While it is one of several with that name and symbol, it had spiked over $1 billion in November.
Its closest competitor, Niero on ETH, also trading under the ticker NEIRO, has a market cap of $45 million. It had gone as high as $266 million in August before losing momentum after Binance controversially listed the current market leader.
