Student Launches Solana Memecoin from Samsung Fridge in Mall

Memecoin creators are getting increasingly creative to make their tokens stand out from the thousands of offerings launched daily on PumpFun.

On Oct. 28, an Australian university student walking through a mall on his way to class came across a Samsung smart fridge in an appliance store and discovered it was connected to the Internet. As a crypto native, his next step, naturally, was to launch a memecoin using the device and stream it live on Twitter.

“I actually had class, so I started to walk back to uni after spending about an hour in the store watching the chart and talking to curious staff,” the pseudonymous Fridge Dev told The Defiant.

Less than an hour later, FRIDGE graduated from PumpFun’s bonding curve and went live on Solana DEX Raydium.

“I sprint back to the store, get there just as it goes live and start filming immediately, which piques the interest of the store manager. All the staff were incredibly interested,” said Fridge Dev.

The nascent community that sprung up around the coin suggested that he create a Solana wallet for the manager, who can be heard asking, “People put money into this?” in a video clip.

Fridge Dev confirmed that after he helped create the manager’s wallet, community members sent FRIDGE tokens, which the manager promptly sold.

“People were super generous, with someone even sending 1M tokens. However, being a greedy salesman, he kept bugging me, asking how to sell the tokens,” Fridge Dev added.

The next hurdle surfaced when it was time to actually buy the fridge. The manager claimed that it was a floor model he had purchased himself and, therefore, unavailable.

As the situation unfolded live on Twitter, another crypto community member showed up at the mall with a car and a mission.

“They pick me up, and we frantically blast around Sydney searching for the exact model of fridge,” said Fridge Dev.

Though unable to find the exact model that day, the fridge was eventually purchased the next day and relocated to the Crypto Castle in Sydney, where the latest livestream took place.

Meanwhile, the FRIDGE token, which peaked at a $9 million market capitalization on Oct. 29, has dropped nearly 80% to around $2 million.

“We hope the community rallies around the concept, visiting local electronics stores and displaying the chart to the masses, onboarding normies through fridge tech,” concluded Fridge Dev. “We will be moving the fridge around town, using extension cords and generators to display the chart where it has never been displayed before.”
