Gear Technologies Showcases Gear.exe at DevCon 2024

Gear Protocol, the developers behind Gear.exe and Vara Network, are showcasing their products and getting involved at Devcon 2024.

The team will take part in events every day during Devcon, including keynotes from Gear Founder and CEO Nikolay Volf at Protolayers and Deinsight, as well as an introduction of Gear.exe to the Ethereum community, and a debate panel on the landscape of EVMs and alternative Layer 1s.

Devcon 2024 is a four-day Ethereum conference in Bangkok, from Nov 12 to Nov 15, featuring speakers and panels from top builders and investors in the Ethereum community. Some of the event’s featured speakers include Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Aya Miyaguchi of the Ethereum Foundation, and Sreeram Kannan of EigenLayer.

What is Gear.exe?

Gear.exe is a decentralized compute network that bolsters computation capacity and enables parallel execution for Ethereum dApps, developed by Gear Protocol.

Contrary to Layer 2 solutions, Gear.exe is not a blockchain, or a network that produces its own blocks. Instead Gear.exe prevents the bridge liquidity fragmentation that comes with using other EVM L2s, with the potential to be implemented on any EVM or non-EVM chain in the future.

Through Gear.exe, users can expect a 90+% reduction in gas fees with up to a 1000x increase in compute capacity, all built on Rust for a developer-friendly environment.
Gear.exe looks to offer an alternative scaling solution that is meant to improve Ethereum’s throughput while avoiding some of the issues associated with rollups, such as limited UX improvements.

Instead of users moving to Gear.exe, Gear.exe can come to them through native and event-based integration of its decentralized compute. Through both integration forms, validators execute the Gear program while maintaining security from Symbiotic’s shared security pool. Vara will be used to stake and secure the network along with ETH, as well as for governance and fee payments

These program executions are then batched and emitted as a transaction to a Gear contract on Ethereum, where the result is sent to the corresponding dApp.

What is Vara Network?

Vara Network is a Layer 1 solution built by Gear Technologies, meant to power the next generation of Web3 dApps. The network is non-fork upgradeable, employs a Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS) consensus mechanism, and “provides an optimal platform for next-gen gaming, financial-based applications, and various experimental features.”

Some of these features include automation of internal processes, gasless transactions, signless interactions, and built-in actors, all of which create a more seamless and Web2-like interface for users.
