Sony To Integrate Chainlink For Cross-Chain Interoperability For Soneium L2

Soneium, the hotly anticipated upcoming Layer 2 from Sony, is deepening its support for Chainlink, the cross-chain interoperability provider.
On Sept. 12, Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony SBL), Sony’s web3-focused subsidiary, announced it will adopt Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure.
Soneium is also joining Chainlink’s Scale Program, an initiative providing subsidized data oracle services to blockchain networks as they mature, and launched support for Chainlink’s Data Feeds on its Soneium Minato testnet.
“We’re excited to join the Chainlink Scale Program and integrate CCIP as our canonical cross-chain infrastructure,” said Jun Watanabe, Sony SBL’s chairman. “Chainlink’s industry-standard infrastructure ensures that we’re providing the best possible experience for the Soneium ecosystem.”
Soneium bursts onto the scene
The news comes as Soneium is quickly garnering momentum since the project was announced three weeks ago. Sony SBL is developing Soneium in partnership with Startale Labs, the development team behind Astar.
On Aug. 28, Soneium launched its Minato testnet and announced the upcoming Spark incubator program offering up to $100,000 in investment to approved developers. Sota Watanabe, the director of Sony SBL, told The Defiant that more than 50 projects reached out to express interest in joining Spark within four days.
Chainlink CCIP enjoys adoption from major corporations
Sony is the latest mainstream corporation to adopt Chainlink CCIP as cross-chain infrastructure for its web3 foray.
Over the past year, the tradfi behemoths Swift, Vodafone, the U.S. Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), and Australia and New Zealand Bank (ANZ) have all leveraged CCIP for digital asset pilots.
CCIP has driven almost $865,500 worth of revenue for Chainlink since its whitelisted launch last July, including roughly $230,000 following its permissionless deployment in April, according to Dune Analytics. CCIP has facilitated $223.8 million worth of transactions over the same period.
