What is DEX TVL?
DEX TVL or Total Value Locked, is one of the main metrics used by investors and analysts when assessing a decentralized exchange (DEX). It represents the total value of digital assets held in the smart contracts of a DEX, generally in liquidity pools that facilitate trading.
How is DEX TVL used?
DEX TVL is a good indicator of the level of activity in a DEX. Combined with Trade Volume, it is a key metric for gauging investors' interest in particular protocol. A spike in TVL generally coincides with a new liquidity mining program or new product launch.
How is DEX TVL calculated?
Each data platform calculates DEX TVL in a particular way, which is why you may see some discrepancies among TVL. At The Defiant, we calculate DEX TVL like this:
