Top Ethereum Total Value Locked
What is TVL?
Total Value Locked, or TVL, is one of the main metrics investors and analysts in decentralized finance track. It represents the dollar value of digital assets held in the smart contracts of DeFi protocols, for example, in the form of collateral for loans, or as liquidity pools for trading.
How is TVL used?
TVL is a good indicator of the overall level of activity in the market and is an imperfect gauge of the size of the on-chain economy. Investors can track relative changes in TVL among top protocols to assess where money is flowing in DeFi.
How is TVL calculated?
Each data platform calculates TVL in a particular way, which is why you may see some discrepancies among TVL. At The Defiant, we calculate TVL like this:
sum(Pool Token Count X Token Price) = TVL
